Video of elephant being tortured: Forest dept trying to rescue animal

The Forest Department is trying to rescue the elephant that was shown in a video being tortured by several people near the Fire Service and Civil Defence station in Cumilla’s Daudkandi upazila.
The video of the incident, which took place on Monday, has gone viral on social media.
Tawfiqul Islam Bhuiyan, assistant director of the fire service office, said, “Our station is near the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. The incident took place outside our station at 7:50am on Monday.”
Quoting locals he said, “I have heard that the elephant’s mahout [trainer] and his companions took him to Chattogram after beating the animal.”
When contacted, Forest Officer in Cumilla GM Mohammad Kabir said, “Our teams in different upazilas including Daudkandi are searching for the elephant and its mahout.
“A special team from Dhaka has also been working on it. We are trying to rescue the elephant,” he told our local correspondent.
